Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about enrollment, programs, safety, fees, and daily life at Heritage Montessori Early Learning and OSC in Bonnie Doon, Edmonton.

Enrollment & Registration

We encourage families to start by scheduling a tour of our Bonnie Doon centre. During your visit you'll meet our educators, explore our classrooms, and review our Parent Handbook. After your visit, you'll complete the registration form and submit the required documentation (proof of immunization, emergency contacts, health information) to secure your child's placement. Visit our Register page to get started.

We accept children from 6 weeks to 12 years old across our programs:
  • Infant Care: 6 weeks – 18 months
  • Toddler Program: 19 months – 3 years
  • Preschool Program: 3 – 5 years
  • Out of School Care (OSC): Kindergarten – Grade 6 (up to 12 years)

Spots are limited and fill quickly, especially for infant and toddler care. We recommend contacting us as early as possible — many families register months in advance of their start date. Please contact us to check current availability.

We primarily offer full-time care to maintain routine and consistency for the children. However, depending on availability, we may be able to accommodate part-time schedules. Please contact us to discuss your family's specific needs.

Hours & Schedule

We are open Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM. We are closed on Alberta statutory holidays and have scheduled closure days for professional development, which are communicated well in advance through our parent newsletter.

Children must be signed in and out by an authorized adult each day. Only individuals listed on your registration form as authorized pick-up persons will be permitted to collect your child. We may ask for photo ID. Please notify us as soon as possible if there is a change to your usual pick-up arrangements.

Yes — our full-day care programs operate year-round, including during most school holidays. Our seasonal programming keeps school-age children in the OSC program engaged with special activities during holiday periods.

Safety & Licensing

Yes. Heritage Montessori Early Learning and OSC is fully licensed under Alberta Child Care Licensing regulations. All our educators hold the required qualifications, are First Aid and CPR certified, and undergo a Police Information Check (PIC) before employment. Our centre is subject to regular licensing inspections.

To protect the health of all children and staff, we ask that you keep your child home if they are showing symptoms of illness (fever, vomiting, diarrhea, contagious rash). Children must be symptom-free for 24 hours before returning. Please notify us as early as possible if your child will be absent.

All allergies and dietary restrictions are documented during registration and communicated to all staff. We maintain a nut-aware environment and work closely with families to ensure safe meal and snack options. Allergy action plans and EpiPens are stored securely and accessible to trained staff at all times.

Programs & Curriculum

Our programming is guided by Alberta's Flight: Alberta's Early Learning and Care Framework. We take a play-based approach to learning that supports children's natural curiosity and developmental needs. Each age group has intentional programming that balances structured learning with free exploration, outdoor time, creative arts, sensory play, and social skill building.

We provide morning and afternoon snacks following Canada's Food Guide guidelines. Families are responsible for providing their child's lunch. For infants, parents provide breast milk or formula and any specific foods required. Please discuss your child's dietary needs during registration.

Yes! Our Out of School Care (OSC) program coordinates yellow bus transportation and pickup services from select schools in the Bonnie Doon area. Please contact us for the current list of participating schools and transportation schedules.

Fees & Funding

Fees vary by program and age group. Please contact us directly for our current fee schedule. We are happy to discuss all available funding and subsidy options to make quality childcare affordable for your family.
